The National Children’s Study (NCS) is a national longitudinal study, a long-term research project that follows children and their families over time-that will look at the influence of biological, environmental, genetic, and social factors on the health and development of our nation’s children. The goal of the Study is to improve the health and well-being of children by contributing to the understanding of the impact various factors have on health and disease.
- Initial training will span approximately 6 days and will occur approximately 3 weeks post-hire. Schedule and location will be determined at the time of hire. Subsequent trainings will require travel.

Interviewing experience (NCS experience a plus)
Able to make long-term commitment to project
Ability to understand complex protocol with multiple instruments
Willing to collect physical measurements (e.g. blood pressure, weight, waist circumference) using specialized equipment and following detailed training protocols (experience a plus)
Willing to collect, transport, store, and ship environmental samples (e.g. dust, water)
Experience with or ability to work with small children
Familiarity and comfort using computers and accessing the internet is strongly preferred
Comfortable working in (recruiting participants from) healthcare provider officers and/or hospitals
Responsibility for reconciling respondent fees.
Have strong gaining cooperation skills
Able to administer the interview in a non-judgmental manner
Able to transport and handle supplies weighing 25 pounds including a laptop computer and a wheeled suitcase containing materials
Be organized, an active listener and detail-oriented
Have reliable transportation with required insurance coverage as well as a good driving history
Sign a release allowing a background check and Motor Record Vehicle check
High school diploma or equivalent, Associates Degree preferred In addition, the job posting contains specific requirements for biospecimen collection:
At least 6 months experience working with adults and/or children to collect biospecimens, such as blood, urine, or saliva
must have experience with at least 2 types of these biospecimens
At least 6 months experience handling blood, urine, and other biospecimens (must have experience with at least 2 types of these biospecimens)Resume should reflect length and type of biospecimen collection experience
In addition to meeting specific job requirements, employees hired for this position must present evidence of their identity and authorization to work in the United States (I9 documentation) and must undergo a background check.
- Interviewers must be comfortable working in a variety of settings including healthcare provider offices and/or hospitals
- Interviewers will also be responsible for reconciling respondent fees. A separate bank account may be required for these monies.
- Interviewers should have gaining cooperation skills and the ability to converse with mothers of young children.
- Interviewers should have a schedule that is flexible and able to accommodate appointments at different times of the day and days of the week.
- Interviewers must be able to administer the interview in a non-judgmental manner.
